This special release isn’t just about the cheerleaders and refs. Blood Bowl is also updating its community with a new FAQ, Errata, and Designers’ Commentary. This essential document will answer many questions and provide insights into the game, making it a must-read for all players.

The Made to Order window for these miniatures opens at 10 am GMT on Saturday, December 23rd, and closes at 8 am GMT on Tuesday, January 2nd. It’s important to note that the Elven cheerleaders, known as the Eaglettes, won’t be part of this release period. However, they might make a return in the future, so fans should keep an eye out for further announcements.

Knights for Horus Heresy and Warhammer 40,000

Two brand-new knight variants have been introduced for use in Horus Heresy and Warhammer 40,000 games: the Cerastus Knight Acheron and Cerastus Knight Castigator.

The Acheron is a close-combat monster, loaded with a flamestorm cannon and reaper chainfist, designed to incinerate infantry with superheated promethium or cleave through them with its chainblade. Meanwhile, the Castigator prefers mid-range combat, boasting a castigator boltcannon and a tempest warblade that utilizes volkite technology.

Made-to-Order Terrain Kits

To compliment the new edition of Warhammer 40,000, a range of classic terrain kits is set to be re-released. These will be available for order from September 23rd until October 2nd. The offerings include six classic kits such as the Aegis Defence Line, Imperial Bastion, and the Skyshield Landing Pad, among others. Hero bases and the Sector Imperialis Large Base Detail Kit will also be featured.

Vampires Return to Blood Bowl

After a long hiatus, the Vampires are making a grand reentry into Blood Bowl with a new plastic team comprising 14 players, including Vampire Blitzers, Runners, Throwers, and eight Thralls. The Vargheist—a rampaging Brute—is also being introduced, alongside several star players like Count Luthor von Drakenborg and Ivan ‘the Animal’ Deathshroud.

First up is the Decurion Lanius from Sons of Horus, one of the new additions in the “Siege of Cthonia” supplement for Horus Heresy. This unforgiving tank commander was borne out of the Warmaster’s demand for relentless loyalty and is notorious for turning his guns on his own subordinates to maintain discipline. The Lanius resin miniature can be mounted on a Predator, Sicaran, Sicaran Punisher, or Kratos tank, is armed with a banestrike bolt cannon, and comes with a choice of two heads.

Also making his debut this week is Ripper Bolgrot, hailed as the most intelligent troll to have ever graced the Blood Bowl pitch. While physical prowess typically takes precedence in Blood Bowl, having a bit of brains doesn’t hurt, and Bolgrot certainly has more than a bit. This towering troll is a prime recruit for teams competing in the Badland Brawl and Underworld Challenge categories. The Bolgrot resin miniature includes rules, so players can field him immediately upon acquisition.

The new edition of Warhammer 40,000 follows the principle of being simplified, not simple, making it more accessible to newcomers while preserving the depth that has made the game a staple of the tabletop gaming community.

A compact hardback book containing the core rules of Warhammer 40,000, revamped for the new edition, will also be available exclusively from the Games Workshop webstore. The 64-page book, slightly smaller than the A5 format, offers a handy companion for gamers, and will be available for as long as stocks last.

The first product, the Warhammer 40,000 Introductory Set, is tailored for beginners. It includes five Infernus Marines, 10 Termagants, a Ripper Swarm, tools, and paints to help newcomers dive into the world of building and painting miniatures. A 48-page introductory handbook also offers tutorials and basic missions.

For those seeking a deeper dive into the game, the Warhammer 40,000 Starter Set offers additional miniatures and materials. Besides the contents of the Introductory Set, it includes a Captain in Terminator Armour, five Terminators, a Winged Tyranid Prime, a Psychophage, three Von Ryan’s Leapers, and 10 more Termagants with a Ripper Swarm.

The Warhammer 40,000 Ultimate Starter Set provides the most comprehensive introduction to the game. Besides all the materials of the Starter Set, it includes six extra miniatures to create two full Combat Patrols of Space Marines and Tyranids. Additionally, it features terrain and two double-sided gaming boards.

Alongside these sets, Games Workshop will also release several miniatures and painting sets. Notable among these are the Librarian in Terminator Armour, a powerful and well-protected psyker, and the Barbgaunts, monstrous creatures that expand the Tyranids combat patrol.

Furthermore, Games Workshop is releasing painting sets for both Infernus Marines and Termagants with Ripper Swarm, each complete with a Citadel starter brush and five paints. There’s also the Warhammer 40,000 Paints + Tools Set, which contains 13 paints and tools to get started with push-fit miniatures.

The Decurion Lanius, a unique tank commander to the Sons of Horus, and Ripper Bolgrot, a smart Troll star player in Blood Bowl, will also be available for pre-order.

Next week will also see the launch of the Black Library Character Day 2023, featuring five new stories by various authors, and the release of the French and German editions of the Leviathan novel. In the realm of Blood Bowl, the game of street-level fantasy football mayhem, “Gutter Bowl,” offers a shift from stadium to the chaotic streets and sewers of the Old World. This expansion introduces new rules, a double-sided game board, and matching dugouts.

Furthermore, two new teams join the fray: The Old World Alliance Blood Bowl Team and the Underworld Denizens Blood Bowl Team, both offering a unique blend of race combinations. These teams each come with their respective card packs, providing team-specific rules and strategies.

Meanwhile, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is set to introduce Lieutenant Titus and his miniature, which will be available exclusively from the Target webstore starting July 1st, within the “Space Marine: The Board Game.”

In the literary realm, Games Workshop announced Evan Dicken’s “Children of Teclis,” a tale of power struggles and divine plans, available to pre-order next week. Also available for pre-order is “Grombrindal: Chronicles of the Wanderer,” an anthology by David Guymer, collecting seven tales of the legendary Grombrindal.

The Gutter Bowl expansion offers a no-holds-barred version of the original game, without the referees to monitor the action. It’s Blood Bowl on the streets; it’s chaotic, it’s raw, it’s a literal riot.

The concept of Gutter Bowl first arose in downtown Altdorf in 2475. After a contentious finale led to fans getting ousted from rival taverns, a melee ensued. The brawl lasted for five hours until the football was torn apart. Both pubs claimed a half of the ball as a trophy, though the actual winner remains a mystery to this day.

While exceptionally violent and more chaotic than the most Nuffle-blasted game of Blood Bowl, this urban variant of the game has now become a clandestine pastime. It is banned in most cities and settlements, but zealous fans keep it alive by attempting to formalise its peculiarities. Established guidelines have evolved it into a genuinely enjoyable spectacle instead of an endless, formless brawl.

The Gutter Bowl expansion brings a 32-page rulebook, two game boards and matching dugouts, all packed in a box. The rulebook explains how amateur players can participate in the action, beating the snot out of each other in the streets and sewers of the Old World and argue with the City Watch that it was just a zealous tackle.

With a change in terrain, the rules are modified as well. The facades of market stalls and the grimy walls of sewers can be used to ricochet the ball, while the treacherous drains provide unique hazards filled with effluents. New Kick-Off Events, inspired by the surroundings, guarantee that no two games are alike. And with barely any security, unruly fans and secret weapons can run amok, adding an unpredictable element to each game.

Once considered a dense Troll even by Troll standards, Ripper Bolgrot underwent a secret regimen of “sports therapy” that transformed him into a stunningly brilliant athlete. His ability to shout orders, devise complex strategies, and count higher than three caught the attention of the Blood Bowl league, forever changing the perception of what a Troll could be.

Ripper Bolgrot’s ascent in Blood Bowl history has been nothing short of meteoric. Renowned for his exceptional attention to contract details and his devastating right hook, Ripper’s unique blend of brains and brawn has earned him a place among the sport’s elite players. While he can still crack skulls with the best of them, any team lucky enough to secure his services, such as the Badlands Brawl or Underworld Challenge, will benefit from more than just raw power.

On the pitch, Ripper Bolgrot performs in line with his Troll nature – delivering powerful blocks, showcasing his remarkable regeneration abilities, and hurling goblins around as if they were paper planes. However, what sets him apart from other Star Players is his uncanny strategic prowess. Unlike most players who can only utilize their Special Rules once per game, Ripper can employ his abilities once per half, effectively doubling their impact and providing invaluable re-rolls.

In addition to Kill Team, Games Workshop is also releasing several other pre-orders this week. The Adeptus Arbites’ Exaction Squad is a versatile kit that can build three types of squads, each with 10 officers and a Cyber-mastiff. The kit is designed for Kill Team, but the units can also be used in Warhammer 40,000 with the free Imperial Agents rules.

The Killzone Upgrade: Soulshackle set includes all the unique terrain from the previous Kill Team boxed set, designed for the rules and missions in the Kill Team: Soulshackle book. The set also includes terrain elements themed around central command points.

For Adeptus Titanicus players, there are four themed packs of Stratagem cards, each containing seven Stratagems unique to their chosen allegiance, nine Legio-specific cards, and 10 general cards usable by any side. There is also a pack of 50 Open Engine War cards, allowing players to randomly generate Deployment Maps and Primary and Secondary Objectives.

Blood Bowl players can look forward to the release of two new Star Players. Dribl and Drull are a pair of tricksy Skinks who can cause chaos on the astrogranite, while Withergrasp Doubledrool is a bestial Star Player with two heads, suitable for any Favoured of… team.
