“Requiem: Downfall of Magic” Surpasses Kickstarter Goal: A Cooperative Dark Fantasy Set in the Luther Era, Invites Players to Thwart Necromantic Cultists
The Kickstarter campaign for “Requiem: Downfall of Magic,” a cooperative dark fantasy adventure game, has successfully exceeded its funding goal. Originally seeking $108,699, the campaign has collected $187,801 from 1,274 backers with 16 days remaining until it concludes on April 5.
Set in the year 1530 in Wittenberg of the Holy Roman Empire, “Requiem: Downfall of Magic” is rooted in a historical context marked by the ongoing conflict between the Protestant and Catholic factions following Martin Luther’s actions. The game introduces players to a plot involving a group of cultists led by Cosma de Gubernatis, an apprentice necromancer aiming to summon Death to the material plane.
The narrative places players in the role of members of the Order, a secret organization formed by the Roman Church to combat the spread of dangerous magic and to prevent the materialization of Cosma’s plan.
“Requiem: Downfall of Magic” is designed for 1-4 players and offers a narrative campaign that spans various quests. Players will navigate through the game via a Chapter Book that develops the story and specifies the rules for each quest. The game board, composed of hexagonal tiles featuring artwork and game elements, changes as players progress, encountering enemies and events that further the narrative explored in the Discovery Book.
This game stands out for its detailed setting in early 1500s Europe, engaging gameplay that combines exploration, strategy, and storytelling, and the unique challenges presented by boss fights with distinct rules and maps.
