With plans to launch a crowdfunding campaign within the year, the company has promised an array of sneak peeks and updates throughout 2024.

“Runefire” aims to blend the intricate lore of Pathfinder with the dynamic gameplay of narrative deckbuilding. Players will embark on epic journeys across the Inner Sea region, exploring renowned locales like Cheliax, Numeria, and Taldor. The game offers a diverse selection of ancestries and classes for players to choose from, including dwarves, elves, halflings, humans, clerics, rogues, fighters, and wizards. As adventurers progress, they will have opportunities to enhance their characters through leveling up, acquiring new equipment, mastering feats, and unfolding a unique story influenced by their decisions.

Mike Webb, VP of Sales and Marketing at Paizo, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “We are excited to see the rich world we’ve created in Golarion reach new fans through the incredible engine the team at Catalyst have built.” He highlighted the game’s appeal to both Pathfinder enthusiasts and fans of Catalyst’s existing game systems.

“Runefire” is built upon the same acclaimed engine that powered “Crossfire” for Shadowrun and “Dragonfire” for Dungeons & Dragons, promising a fresh and engaging experience for fans of Golarion and Pathfinder. The game will delve deep into the lore, incorporating elements from the newly remastered Player Core, GM Core, and Monster Core to ensure an immersive and enjoyable experience for players.

Randall N. Bills, Creative Director of Catalyst Game Labs, shared his personal excitement for the project, noting his previous work on “Dragonfire” as a career highlight. He expressed his delight in developing “Runefire,” mentioning the joy of immersing himself in the game’s development and the lore of Golarion. Bills praised the collaborative effort with Paizo and his team, emphasizing their shared goal of creating an authentic Pathfinder experience that would resonate with players.

Fans of roleplaying and deckbuilder games alike are encouraged to keep an eye on Catalyst Game Labs’ website (www.catalystgamelabs.com) for more details about “Runefire” and its upcoming crowdfunding campaign.

Catalyst Game Labs Unveils New ForcePacks for BattleTech Universe https://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/catalyst-game-labs-unveils-new-forcepacks-for-battletech-universe/ https://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/catalyst-game-labs-unveils-new-forcepacks-for-battletech-universe/#comments Tue, 04 Jul 2023 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/?p=12847 BattleTech fans can look forward to three new ForcePacks, namely The Proliferation Cycle, the UrbanMech Lance, and the Snord’s Irregulars Assault Lance, now available from Catalyst Game Labs’ web store.

The Proliferation Cycle, priced at $44.99, brings an exciting new dimension to the BattleTech narrative. Set in 2439, it traces the history of the first BattleMech, the Mackie, and how it sparked an arms race across the Inner Sphere. The Proliferation Cycle anthology narrates the gripping tale of how the six Houses resorted to weaponry, infiltrations, and espionage to develop their advanced ‘Mechs. It also features the story of the first Clan OmniMech. The ForcePack includes seven original ‘Mechs, which can be played on any game table using the Interstellar Operations: Alternate Eras rules. The set includes seven fully-assembled miniatures, seven MechWarrior pilot cards, and seven Alpha Strike cards.

Next, the UrbanMech Lance, available for $29.99, highlights the beloved (and sometimes despised) mascot of BattleTech—the UrbanMech. Over the last four decades, this ‘Mech has gained notoriety, even manifesting as plushies, appearing in a company box, and becoming a full-scale inflatable display! The ForcePack brings a fresh pose of the original UM-R60 variant from the UrbanMech Salvage Box, with three additional variants, including a brand-new ilClan Era design. The set comprises four fully-assembled miniatures, four MechWarrior pilot cards, and four Alpha Strike cards.

Lastly, Snord’s Irregulars Assault Lance, also priced at $29.99, introduces the quirky and unpredictable mercenaries, Snord’s Irregulars. Known for their unconventional tactics and penchant for collecting lost artifacts, Snord’s Irregulars always manage to scrape through even the tightest spots. The ForcePack includes the new Spartan, a unique FrankenMech exclusive to the Irregulars, a jumping Guillotine, and a new variant of the Highlander. The set comes with four fully-assembled miniatures, four MechWarrior pilot cards, and four Alpha Strike cards.

Catalyst Game Labs has also teased an exciting release for next Friday, July 7. BattleTech enthusiasts can expect a series of plushies to hit the store, featuring UrbanMech (Liao), Archer (Kell Hounds), Archer (Wolf’s Dragoons), Phoenix Hawk (Kurita), and Phoenix Hawk (21st Centauri Lancers). Davion and Eridani Light Horse versions of the Atlas will be available in a few weeks.

Catalyst Game Labs Establishes Dedicated Board Game Division, Announces the Launch of “Overlords: In Training” https://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/catalyst-game-labs-establishes-dedicated-board-game-division-announces-the-launch-of-overlords-in-training/ https://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/catalyst-game-labs-establishes-dedicated-board-game-division-announces-the-launch-of-overlords-in-training/#respond Sun, 21 May 2023 20:00:00 +0000 https://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/?p=10879 Catalyst Game Labs, the creator of the legendary BattleTech and Shadowrun games, alongside Leviathans: The Great War, is branching out further into the world of board games. The company, which has already produced popular titles such as The Duke, Crossfire, and Dragonfire, announced the formation of a dedicated board game division. This division will not only house the aforementioned games but will also include best-selling titles acquired from other companies, such as Element from Rather Dashing Games and Kittens in a Blender from Redshift Games.

Mike Richie, the Creative Director for Catalyst Board Games, expressed his excitement about the new division. “This idea of a Board Game Division has been brewing for some time now,” he said. “We have so many great games and ideas in the works, the first of which we’ll be publishing under this division is a unique and special experience.”

The first game to be published under the new division is “Overlords: In Training“, a project close to the heart of Catalyst’s Managing Developer, Randall Bills. Having spent nearly three decades in the adventure gaming industry, Bills has been known for his contributions to games and universes he loves, working with hundreds of game designers, artists, and writers worldwide.

“Overlords: In Training” is a unique project that Bills describes as “one of the most meaningful projects of my life.” It’s a game born from the imagination of his neurodivergent son, Kenyon, who has been crafting a dynamic universe filled with unique characters and settings for nearly a decade. Kenyon and his father have worked together to bring this universe, named “Doodle Realms,” to life in the form of a card game, with Kenyon at the helm of nearly all aspects of the game, from character design and naming to writing quotes.

The game will launch on Kickstarter on May 23, 2023, and is described as a fast and fun card game in which players assume the roles of overlords in training, vying to impress the Boss enough to survive a battle royale.

Bills and his family are bringing “Overlords: In Training” to Kickstarter with the hopes of sharing their story and promoting the joy and understanding that comes with tabletop gaming. “Expanding our understanding of each other as we play games and laugh and love,” says Bills, “is what gaming is all about.”

The formation of a dedicated board game division signals a promising future for Catalyst Game Labs. The launch of “Overlords: In Training” under the division demonstrates the company’s commitment to developing diverse and unique games that resonate with players on a deeper level.
