“Horror on the Orient Express” Derails Kickstarter Goals, Setting New Tracks for Fans of Lovecraftian Horror
The Kickstarter campaign for “Horror on the Orient Express: The Board Game” by Chaosium Inc. has significantly exceeded its funding goal, raising US$ 888,621 against an initial target of US$ 50,000. With 8,761 backers supporting the project and 10 days remaining until its conclusion on April 19, the campaign demonstrates strong interest from the board game community.
This board game adaptation brings the renowned Call of Cthulhu horror and mystery TTRPG into the board gaming space. The game is set in the 1920s on the iconic Orient Express, providing players with a narrative that involves a journey through the Dreamlands, facing challenges such as monsters, cults, and an eldritch vampire. Players work cooperatively as investigators on the train, tasked with uncovering dark secrets, identifying cultists, and ensuring the train reaches its destination safely.
Gameplay involves character development, item gathering, interaction with passengers, clue discovery, and decision-making that influences the outcome of the game. The design and mechanics of the game encourage ongoing character progression and strategic thinking, aimed at providing an engaging and memorable gaming experience.
To address potential backers’ curiosity about the gameplay, the creators have made a complete online version available through a Tabletop Simulator workshop module, allowing interested parties to explore the game before committing to a pledge.
