Looney Labs Launches Pyramid Quartet Kickstarter
Looney Labs are masters at making quick, little, fun games that can fit in your pocket. They tend to take simple mechanics and pieces and turn them into something greater. Well, they’re looking to expand their game line by four new sets. As such, they’ve launched their Pyramid Quartet Kickstarter campaign.
From the campaign:
Pyramid Quartet is a set of 4 portable and delightful abstract games that use these Looney Pyramids. You can take them anywhere and play them everywhere! With a wide range of game styles, there’s something for everyone!
Nomids is a fast and very easy game with a simple goal: get rid of all your pyramids first. Each player starts with one of each size, all different colors. A roll of the special die provides a variety of different actions players can use to move pieces around. If you build a matching set you can dump 3 pieces at once. First player with no ‘mids wins! The Nomids set includes a trio of all ten colors in Pyramid Arcade, making it the perfect set of building blocks for expansion. For a few more details about Nomids, check out this article about the development of the game from Andy’s blog.
Ice Duo is actually two complete games in one box: Ice Dice and Twin Win. Ice Dice is a press-your-luck game that was specifically designed to be an introductory game for the pyramids. It features a special pair of dice designed for this game but useful now for many others. Twin Win is a quick little hidden-goal game that has turned out to be the sleeper hit of games in Pyramid Arcade. The Ice Duo set contains 2 trios each of five colors (red, yellow, green, cyan, and purple).
Martian Chess is a fast and easy to learn Chess-style game with a difference that really makes you think: ownership of pieces is determined not by color, but by location on the gameboard. For this new edition, we are creating a new color, chrome silver, and since color has no meaning in this game, all 18 pieces in the set will be of this new color. Old-school fans can think of this as being like a new monochrome stash expansion.
Homeworlds is a complex-yet-elegant abstract strategy game: an epic interstellar space war with no luck and no hidden information. Using just 36 pyramids, Homeworlds is actually a 4X conquest game (Expand, Explore, Exploit, Exterminate) with amazing depth of gameplay. It features the four classic colors, which each provide specfic powers in the game (red for attack, yellow for movement, green for growth, and blue for transformation). This is the game Andy Looney likes so much he will give a medal to anyone who can beat him. (So far, only 19 people have. )
The campaign’s more than 2x funded with 26 days left to go.
