Paizo Partners with Mirrorscape to Introduce Augmented Reality Versions of Starfinder and Pathfinder
A partnership announced today between Extended Reality (XR) game development company Mirrorscape and tabletop roleplaying game giant Paizo, aims to bring celebrated titles, Starfinder and Pathfinder, into the world of Augmented Reality (AR). These popular games will become available on the much-anticipated Mirrorscape’s AR Virtual Tabletop platform.
Mirrorscape, scheduled for release in the summer of 2023, is an AR platform that promises to create an immersive, realistic tabletop roleplaying environment. Users will be able to interact with game pieces, terrains, and minis, replicating the physical gaming experience in the virtual world. The new collaboration with Paizo means that players will now be able to embark on legendary quests and gaming adventures through this AR interface.
Mirrorscape COO and co-founder Don Bland stated, “Our platform is designed to combine the tabletop gaming experience beloved by players across the world with emerging technologies that make gaming as immersive, enjoyable, and accessible as possible. Open gaming is our vision, and the addition of Paizo’s legendary set of titles will further enhance the experience available on Mirrorscape, while also giving Paizo’s widespread and immensely loyal fanbase more ways to play.”
Having been in development for four years, Mirrorscape emphasizes open, community-based experiences that support gamer creativity and homebrew campaigns. This approach aligns directly with Paizo’s offerings, especially the Open RPG Creative (ORC) License currently in its final drafting stages.
Paizo Publisher Erik Mona expressed his enthusiasm, “Bringing Paizo’s titles to Mirrorscape allows us to replicate the true-to-life, around-the-table experience that our fans have enjoyed for decades in an astonishing virtual experience. The team at Mirrorscape has dedicated a tremendous amount of time and effort into keeping the Paizo experience as realistic and original as possible on the platform, and we are thrilled to contribute to the growth of such a unique and exciting development in virtual tabletop gaming.”
Mirrorscape will launch its open beta version on iOS and Android devices soon, with the inclusion of Paizo titles following shortly thereafter. In addition to mobile compatibility, Mirrorscape is also being developed for AR glasses and headsets, enhancing the gaming experience with advanced hand- and eye-tracking capabilities.
