Warlord Games Introduces New Addition to Hail Caesar Series: The Punic Wars
Warlord Games has announced the next installment in its Epic Battles series, titled Hail Caesar Epic Battles: The Punic Wars. The game covers the historical conflicts between the Roman Republic and Carthage, including the use of war elephants, from 264 to 146 BC.
Revealed at the Salute convention and highlighted across various social media platforms, the game adaptation maintains the foundational gameplay of Rick Priestley’s original Hail Caesar but adjusted to a smaller scale. This adjustment facilitates the use of larger armies on the tabletop, enhancing the visual and tactical experience.
The new game features simplified assembly and painting processes, particularly with the newly designed Roman infantry blocks that are easier to handle and detailed, enabling quick setup without sacrificing visual quality. The Hannibal battle set, a comprehensive package within this release, includes extensive forces for both historical factions, a rulebook, and an additional game titled Scipio that focuses on the Roman tactical system known as ‘manipular’ tactics.
On the Carthaginian side, the game features diverse units like Libyan infantry, Gallic Celts, and Numidian cavalry. The elephants, significant to Carthaginian military tactics, are highlighted as multi-part models providing customization and scale appropriate for epic battles.
Pre-orders for the game are set to begin in May, as Warlord Games aims to expand its offering in the historical tabletop gaming market. Further details on the game, including miniature breakdowns and painting tips, are expected to be shared leading up to the release date.
